A hard to part with Spirited Gal, just in time for our favorite time of the year, our wonderful American Folk Art Cloth Doll so very primitive we fondly know her as MAE. She comes from the extraordinary collection of Mae Atkinson who was the curator of the museum in Newbury, MA.

This sweet little creature is early made with honest wear blue grey ticking for her body, arms and legs, rag cotton stuffing and has a few old “mommie repairs”. She wears her original as found greatly faded blue calico dress, tan wool flannel slip. She measures 19” with her dress on, it is longer than her body. Her body from head to toe is around 14” tall and she measures 4” across her head and her arms are 4 ½” long. Unjointed but due to the stuffing shifted she sits very well,

She has a splotchy & blurred ink drawn face with an expression to die for and hard not to fall into her mystique, Her original patina shows all the love she was given thru the years. We’ve left her in as found condition because we love her just the way she is, simple & primitive, complete with her mends, discolors and her ability to amuse. A Real Keeper from my collection, she reminds me of a slightly scary Raggedy Ann.
