Summertime…and the Livin’ is Easier! Offering our sweet old boy for adoption, a wonderful make-do early cloth doll likely stuffed with old batting or cloth pieces found around the home. He has a face drawn in pencil and the backside I almost see another one though quite worn but perhaps just my great imagination or aging vision.
His egghead shaped head is sewn down around the neck with darker thread and his body is simply made unjointed with chocolate brown twill. It does have an area that is almost a tear but not quite on his chest. Some naïve stitches repair under the arms and torso side quite normal for a played with old doll who is maybe c.late 1800s-1910s? he is left as found, shirt and all.
Love his early beige cream shirt showing its wear and patina from age, the neckline now poorly fitting or loosened up. it only needs a running stitch or drawstring to secure better but at least it’s easy to take off.
He’s a great sitter and well behaved, sits nicely in a chair or lap, can be posed a bit and adds a smile to my collection.
